ALKA+ Total Alkalinity Increaser Powder – 1 kg

ALKA+ is a powdered pool water treatment designed to raise total alkalinity (TA). It helps correct low alkalinity and improves pH stability by increasing the water's buffering capacity.

Supplied in a 1 kg container, ALKA+ is intended for use when pool water testing shows that total alkalinity needs to be increased.

Why use ALKA+ in your pool?

Total alkalinity describes how well pool water resists sudden pH changes. When alkalinity is too low, the pH may fluctuate significantly after chemical adjustments.

ALKA+ raises total alkalinity to help make pH management more predictable. Keeping alkalinity balanced makes it easier to adjust and maintain the desired pH level.

For more information, read our guide to pool water alkalinity and hardness.

When should you increase pool alkalinity?

Use ALKA+ when a water test indicates low total alkalinity, particularly if the pH fluctuates frequently or is difficult to maintain.

The supplied product label specifies a total alkalinity range of 10–15 French degrees (°f), equivalent to 100–150 mg/L.

ALKA+ should be added according to measured water conditions rather than a fixed treatment schedule.

How much ALKA+ should you use?

What is the recommended ALKA+ dosage for raising pool alkalinity?

According to the product label, 170 g of ALKA+ per 10 m³ of water increases total alkalinity by 1 °f, equivalent to 10 mg/L.

The required quantity depends on the initial alkalinity, pool volume and adjustment needed.

For gradual treatment, do not exceed 500 g per 10 m³ in a single application, as specified on the iopool product page.

How to use ALKA+

  1. Test the total alkalinity and pH of your pool water.

  2. Determine the required amount using your measurements and the product instructions.

  3. Dilute the powder in a bucket of water, using no more than 70 g of product per litre of water.

  4. Run the filtration system and distribute the prepared solution throughout the pool while no swimmers are present.

  5. Recheck alkalinity and pH after the water has circulated before considering another adjustment.

Special case: if the pH is below 6.6, the label instructs users to raise it to between 6.8 and 7.0 using a pH increaser before correcting alkalinity.

Safety and handling precautions

  • Read and follow the product label before use.

  • Keep out of reach of children.

  • Keep the product in its original packaging and do not reuse the empty container.

  • Follow the dilution instructions and recommended quantities.

  • Remember that increasing alkalinity can also affect the pH level.

  • If medical advice is needed, have the product container or label available.

Monitor water alkalinity with iopool

The iopool app provides personalised water treatment recommendations based on your pool's measurements.

To measure total alkalinity, use a suitable manual test such as the iopool 6-in-1 test strips.

EcO Start automatically monitors pH, ORP and water temperature. It does not directly measure total alkalinity, so a separate TA test is required.

Frequently asked questions

Is ALKA+ the same as pH increaser?

No. ALKA+ raises total alkalinity to improve pH stability, whereas a pH increaser is primarily used to correct a low pH reading.

How often should I add ALKA+?

Only when testing indicates that alkalinity requires adjustment. There is no universal dosing frequency.

Does ALKA+ disinfect pool water?

No. ALKA+ adjusts total alkalinity and does not replace an appropriate pool sanitiser.

When should I test my water after adding ALKA+?

Recheck both total alkalinity and pH after the product has circulated, following the manufacturer's instructions.
